What is laser cutting?

Laser cutting is a machining method with which materials are cut to size and in the right shape by means of a laser. This is done using light amplification, made possible by an induced radiation transmission. Lasers are electromagnetic sources of radiation. The light from these radiation sources is emitted in a virtually parallel beam, at a very high intensity. The width of the light bundle is only a fraction of a millimeter. As a result, the intensity of the light beam is focused on a very small area – so intense that it can cut.

Laser cutting of sheets is a precise method of metalworking. The laser cuts your desired shape from the metal sheet after which you can process it into the finished product. Laser cutting of sheet metal is possible for aluminium, brass, stainless steel and steel in various thicknesses.

With Sophia®, you can order tailor-made metal products easily and quickly at 247TailorSteel. Go to your Sophia® dashboard and log in with your own login details. In Sophia®, you can continue working on an existing project or start a new request. Upload your STEP, DWG/DXF or TUB file. Sophia® recognises the parts in the assemblies and checks them for manufacturability.

Once you have configured your parts, go to the checkout. Here you can choose your desired delivery date and delivery address. In most cases, it is possible to choose delivery within 48 hours. If you order ahead, you benefit from a lower price. You can order up to 8 weeks in advance.

CNC lasercutting

247TailorSteel works with CNC laser cutters. CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control and is a name for computer-controlled machines. CNC machines can be programmed and therefore repeat orders with the same quality every time. This allows you to order both large and small runs, regardless of the material. When you have uploaded your 3D drawing in Sophia, Sophia checks it for manufacturability. When this is in order and you approve the offer, Sophia sends it to the CNC laser cutter. The laser cut order is started and your job is produced.

Yes, you can have your metal sheet and tube material engraved. 247TailorSteel engraves only for positioning or identification of the products. 

A flatbed laser features a laser beam consisting of electromagnetic radiation sources. The light from these sources is emitted at a high intensity. With a very thin beam and a cutting speed of 140m/m, the CNC flatbed laser cuts your product quickly and easily. With laser cutting, a distinction is made between fibre or CO2 laser cutting. 247TailorSteel mainly works with fibre laser cutting machines. Our online software Sophia® fully reads out your design and checks its manufacturability. For example, not all fonts can be laser-cut and you must pay close attention to the positioning of parts in your drawing. Is the order approved? Then it is automatically sent to our CNC flatbed lasers and the machine goes to work.
