Collaboration for sustainable on-site nitrogen production

247TailorSteel is constantly looking for innovative ways to contribute to sustainability. One of these is making nitrogen consumption more sustainable. Together with ON2Quest, the company started a project to generate nitrogen locally to reduce the use of expensive and emission-rich liquid nitrogen.

When laser cutting metal sheets and tubes, liquid nitrogen is often used. This meets purity requirements but is expensive and significantly increases scope 3 emissions. In addition, a relatively large amount of nitrogen is lost during transport and storage. From that challenge, 247TailorSteel came in contact with ON2Quest.

ON2Quest develops gas purification technologies that help reduce environmental impact. Within this project, they present an advanced nitrogen generation system designed to produce high-purity nitrogen locally, at lower cost and with lower energy consumption.

247TailorSteel said, "Our collaboration with ON2Quest is an exciting step in the development of precision laser cutting technology. This on-site nitrogen production system aligns well with our commitment to operational efficiency and sustainability. By incorporating innovations like this, we can continue to deliver high-quality laser cutting solutions while working toward a more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly future."

The deployment of this system allows 247TailorSteel to produce high-quality nitrogen locally at lower costs. In addition, emissions decrease further by also reducing transportation. To further reduce environmental impact, the system will run on solar energy from the Varsseveld site.

The project is financially supported through the ERDF East program and has been co-financed by the European Union. This project contributes to 247TailorSteel's sustainability ambitions and the further sustainability of its production process.
