An NEN-EN 1090 certificate for your order

Metal semi-finished products and parts must comply with certain standards. While we have always offered a declaration of conformity that complies with NEN-EN-ISO 9013:2017 for various materials, you can also request an NEN-EN 1090 certificate for specific materials. 

In this blog post, we explain what this certificate is, how companies such as 247TailorSteel are assessed and how you can request a certificate.

What is EN 1090?

NEN-EN 1090 (sometimes referred to as NEN 1090 or EN 1090) is a European standard that specifies production and quality requirements for load-bearing steel and aluminium structures such as buildings and bridges.

EN 1090 certified companies are entitled to issue a CE quality mark for their products, which means those products comply with the standards. The standard ensures that steel and aluminium structures in Europe are safe and reliable.

How are companies such as 247TailorSteel assessed?

247TailorSteel is NEN-EN 1090 certified for particular steels and thicknesses (you can read which materials can be ordered with a certificate below). 

But how are we assessed? 

The assessment process first examines the procedures in place at the organisation. An auditor from the TÜV regularly visits 247TailorSteel. He or she assesses whether we comply with the ‘organisational’ requirements.

An annual cutting test is also carried out to assess the quality of the work produced by our machines. We cut numerous test parts (as shown above) and send them to a special laboratory, which assesses the parts and verifies that the cut quality meets the requirements.

How can I request a NEN-EN 1090 certificate?

You can order the following materials and thicknesses with a certificate:

• Steel types: S235JR to S355J2
• Thickness of sheet metal: 4 to 25mm
• Wall thickness of tubes: 4 to 12 mm
• For S235, 2 mm is also certified

We are currently developing a feature that allows you to indicate in Sophia® whether your parts must be produced in accordance with the NEN-EN 1090 standard.

Until this feature is live, you can request a certificate from our Customer Service centre. You can do so as follows:

1. Before placing your order, please contact our Customer Service centre.
2. Indicate that you wish your parts to be produced in accordance with the NEN-EN 1090 standard.
3. The Customer Service centre will inform you about the subsequent steps.
4. Nadat uw order is uitgeleverd ontvangt u het certificaat per e-mail.

Please note: You may be wondering why you must specifically request this and why the production process does not automatically comply with the NEN-EN 1090 standard. This is because 247TailorSteel also processes many orders for which certification is not required. We have set up two ‘flows’ to keep both production processes as efficient as possible.
