247TailorSteel is now firmly established in Belgium and is collaborating with an increasing number of Belgian manufacturing companies. A fine example of this is the partnership with R&R Steel Design; a true family business run by brothers Ruben and Ramses. 

The company specialises in bespoke projects in steel and wood, always with a strong focus on design and finish. From tables and banisters to steel doors, gates, staircases and patio canopies: every project is developed and produced to order. For the supply of high-quality materials and precision-cut components, R&R Steel Design has been relying on 247TailorSteel for several years.

The search for the right material for charging points

An interesting project that R&R Steel Design is undertaking is the production of charging points for their client Ladeeda®. This company supplies elegant charging points that are compatible with virtually all types of EV chargers. The charging points are installed at businesses and private homes across Europe and, to a limited extent, beyond.

Ramses de Leeuw, co-owner of R&R Steel Design, explains the project:

Initially, the charging stations were produced in bare steel by 247TailorSteel. We then finished them so that they could be metallised and powder-coated. However, we were not entirely satisfied with the end result. That is why, together with 247TailorSteel, we set out to find a better solution.

The dissatisfaction stemmed from the fact that the material began to rust over time. This was because the posts could not be finished on the inside. That is why R&R Steel Design began the search for a suitable alternative. 

“We looked at a few alternatives, such as aluminium and stainless steel. These materials did not fully meet our requirements, so we eventually came up with the idea, together with 247TailorSteel, to produce the charging posts in Magnelis®,” says Ramses de Leeuw. 

Custom-made Magnelis® tubes

Magnelis® is known for its excellent corrosion resistance and long service life, making it particularly suitable for applications exposed to the elements. For this project, 247TailorSteel is supplying specially procured Magnelis® tubes that are fully tailored to the needs of R&R Steel Design.

Ramses explains why this is such an important advantage:
“Because the tubes are produced specifically for us, we can limit the wall thickness to just 2 mm. This keeps the charging points lightweight, whilst still ensuring they are strong and durable. In addition, we can optimally tailor the lengths of the tubes, so that material waste is kept to a minimum.”
