Can I specify in a STEP file which side of a tear plate should have the tears?

Yes, you can.

When you upload the STEP file in Sophia®, select tear plate as the material and choose a thickness, you will see that one side of your plate is blue. This is the side with the tears.

Would you prefer the tears to be on the other side? Then check the ‘Turning over plate’ function.

Please note: the thickness of your drawn sheet must correspond to the thickness of the sheet including tears. For example, for a plate of 3.5/5 mm, the 3.5 mm represents the thickness without tears. The 5 mm is the thickness including tears. In this case, you should draw your sheet as 5 mm thick.
